A Book for You if You Are A Dog Lover

A yellow Labrador Retriever holds a tennis ball in its mouth. The image is taken indoors, near a window with blinds and a dog crat3e can be seen in the background.

For some people it may seem a peculiar concept – a book written by a dog. I mean, how can a dog write a book? Do they type using their paws or their noses? And since when do dogs learn how to spell?

For other people, mostly people who have a close bond with their dog, or perhaps their cat or other furry-family members, it doesn’t appear odd at all. Many of us humanize our pets every day. Some of us imagine what they might say. Or what they might be thinking. And it feels completely natural for us to do so.

Note from Craig: we all know that Fiji really wrote the book!

If you found yourself smiling or nodding at that last paragraph, Then Paws for Thought is a book for you. Because even if Fiji’s paws didn’t actually strike the laptop keys, she and I lived every single experience that she describes. Our bond was so strong that I truly felt like I could read the thoughts running through her mind, the adorable expressions on her face, the inquisitive tilt of her head and her expressive ears. Just like you probably do for your fur-baby.

Even if you read the first edition of Paws for Thought, there is plenty for you to justify grabbing a copy of the new edition. There are so many new stories, lots of entertaining adventures, and tons more glorious images of my beautiful yellow labrador guide dog. All with her unique perspective and her characteristic sense of humour. I’ve even included additional information on the training of guide dog puppies, since readers reached out and asked about it.

And, if you’re still not sure that this book is for you, here’s what another reader said after reading the original book:
“I don’t usually give a five-star review, I’m just like that! But Fiji really does deserve it. After all, she is a dog! A witty, insightful, and informative look at the life of a guide dog, through the eyes of the guide dog. Lois Strachan captures how her beautiful Labrador dog must experience the world and what it must be like to face the various lessons and challenges of becoming and being a guide dog. It is a fun and easy read as you journey with Fiji from her puppyhood, through her training, and into her role of taking care of Lois. Do get hold of this book as it touches your heart and your soul. It also makes a great gift.”

I truly believe that this is the best recognition I could give to Fiji and all the other guide dogs who make such a difference in our lives. If you love dogs, if you’re curious to learn more about guide dogs, or if you’re just looking for a heartwarming book with a beautiful story, this one is for you.
